: Arc. dat. σφεις IG5(2).6.10, 18 ([place name] Tegea).-- For the dual v. σφωέ: like other pl. forms σφε can be used with reference to two persons, Il.11.111, Od.8.271, 21.192, 206; so σφεας, Il.11.128.III Gender:—in Hom. this Pron. has no neut.; in Od.9.70, 10.355, it refers to things, denoted by feminine nouns: but in [dialect] Ion. σφεῖς, σφέα, äol. auch σφές, pronom. person. der dritten Person, sie; Hom. hat den gen. σφέων, der einsylbig zu sprechen und auch enklitisch gebraucht ist, ἐκ γάρ σφεων φρένας εἵλετο Παλλὰς Ἀϑήνη, Il. 18, 311, u. öfter; die zusammengezogene Form findet sich in der Vrbdg σφῶν αὐτῶν, 12, 155. 19, 302; σφείων 4, 535. 5, 626. 13, 148. 688, in der Vrbdg ὦσαν ἀπὸ σφείων; sonst gew. σφῶν, Tragg. u. in Prosa; – dat. σφίσι, auch enkl., Hom. u. Folgde; dafür ion. u. poet. σφί u. σφίν, Hom. oft; Aesch. Prom. 252 Spt. 909 u. öfter, u. a. Tragg., immer entl.; nur Her. 7, 149 orthotonirt; das ι wird auch elidirt, αὐτὸς δέ σφ' ἀγόρευε, Il. 8, 4, vgl. 14, 304, öfter; äol. u. dor. auch φιν u. ψιν; – accus. σφέας, einsylbig zu lesen 2, 96 u. öfter, bes. überall, wo es entl. ist, μάλα γάρ σφεας ὦκ' ἐλέλιξεν, 17, 278, u. ἐπεί σφεας ὕπνος ἀνῆκεν, Od. 24, 440; selten eine kurze Sylbe bildend u. dann σφας zu schreiben, Il. 5, 567 μέγα δέ σφας ἀποσφήλειε πόνοιο, wie Parmenid. 12; aber orthotonirt ist es auch bei Hom. zweisylbig, σφέας αὐτούς, Il. 12, 43. 86 Od. 12, 225; καὶ σφέας ὠΐσϑην τοὺς ἔμμεναι, 16, 475, vgl. 23, 66; dah. scheint 8, 480. 13, 276 die einsylbig zu lesende enklitische Form vorzuziehen; σφείας steht Od. 13, 213 (sollte σφεῖας accentuirt sein); äol. u. dor. auch ψέ. – Sehr selten ist der Gebrauch von σφιν für οἱ als dat. sing., H. h. 18, 19. 30, 9, Aesch. Pers. 756, Soph. O. C. 1490, vgl. Reisig enarr. p. 181, Lob. Soph. Ai. 801; Od. 15, 523 wird richtiger auf alle Freier bezogen, wie Hes. Sc. 113 auf Ares u. Kyknos. Vgl. noch Buttm. Lexil. I p. 60, wo ἐμίν, τίν, ἴν als Analogieen dafür angeführt werden. – Σφε s. oben besonders. – Eigenthümlich ist der Gebrauch für die zweite Person, βουλεύοιτε μετὰ σφίσιν statt μεϑ' ὑμῖν, Il. 10, 398, wo aber Bekker βουλεύουσιν lies't; vgl. noch Hes. O. 56 u. Ap. Rh. 2, 1277; in späterer Prosa für die erste Person, vgl. Luc. Soloec. 8 u. s. Wolf prol. p. CCXLVII. Vgl. σφέτερος u. ἑός.
